Department of Computer Science

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) is an exciting, cutting-edge topic with technologies and applications that span almost every aspect of our lives. AI and ML are everywhere, from smartphone apps that recognise your speech, to self-driving cars that revolutionise the safety and efficiency of our transport networks. The September 2023 intake of this course is now closed to international applicants. Dr Zhang focuses on image and video analysis and processing; semantic media analysis; content-based multimedia retrieval, annotation and classification; multimedia systems in social environments; multimedia clustering and summarisation.

To address the issue of efficiency we cover the use of mathematical descriptions of the computational resources needed to support algorithm design decisions.
